Following the Large Queen Issue was the Small Queen Issue of 1870-1893, so-called because the stamps were smaller in size (except the 20c and 50c values).
The 1/2 cent value is the smallest compared to the 1c, 2c, 3c, 5c, 6c, 8c, and 10c (all of which are of about the same size) and the much larger 20c and 50c (which are about the same size as the Large Queens).
In fact the half cent was, and maybe still is (can someone please confirm), the smallest postage stamp of Canada!
